Update Chrome: version 154 fixes 108 security flaws, 11 of them critical

Google has released Chrome 154 for Windows, Mac and Linux (version 154.0.8037.57/58) with 108 security fixes, 11 of them rated critical, and has started rolling out Chrome 155 for Android. Notable fixes include several buffer overflows in ANGLE, the layer the browser uses to render graphics, and an out-of-bounds write in the GPU component. Flaws of this kind can be exploited to compromise a computer simply by visiting a malicious website.

Chrome checks for updates on its own, but the new version isn’t applied until the browser restarts, so if you never close it you may still be running the old version. That’s why it’s worth checking manually. As the world’s most widely used browser, any unpatched flaw is a very attractive way in for attackers, on both home and work computers.

Tip from Soporte Informático 360

Open the Chrome menu, go to Help > About Google Chrome and let it check for the update; then click “Relaunch”. On Android, update Chrome from Google Play. At work, make sure every computer applies browser updates automatically.
