ASUS suffers unauthorised access to its online store, exposing contact details and orders
ASUS has told its customers by email that someone gained unauthorised access to part of its online store environment, the ASUS eShop. The attackers were able to see buyers’ contact details and order records. According to the company, card and bank account details were not affected. ASUS says it has contained the incident, that there is no sign of ongoing access and that it has strengthened its security measures, although it has not said how many customers are affected, in which countries or how the attackers got in.
Although the company considers the risk of misuse to be low, the stolen data is exactly what a scammer needs to sound convincing: your name, your email or phone number and what you bought. That’s why ASUS itself recommends watching out for emails, texts and calls that mention your orders. After a breach like this, fake shipping, return or payment problem notices may arrive whose only goal is to steal credentials or bank details.
Tip from Soporte Informático 360
If you have bought from the ASUS online store, be wary of any message about your orders that asks you to pay, confirm details or click a link. Always sign in by typing the official address into your browser, and change your password if you also use it for other services.
